These adorable new parents and their little baby girl came to see me on her 8th day. Ideally newborn sessions are done when the baby is between 7-14 days old so this was great timing.

What a cute little cake smasher! He was not a huge fan of the cake and that does happen sometimes. It seems strange but it is not necessary for them to love eating the cake to get great photos. Some photographers do not even use a real cake during cake smashes!

What to do if your baby isn’t into the cake? There are a few things to keep in mind and a few ways I work around this.

Our little man is 6 years old!

Now that he is older it is harder to convince Xandre to participate in a photo shoot. Believe it or not age 2 was actually easier to photograph!

One thing Xandre and I have always done is photo shoots. When he was a baby I photographed everything he did of course lol. When we moved into our current home and I set up my studio he was right there with me, sitting on the back backdrop saying “be your model mommy”? Xandre really wanted to do a glitter photo shoot. I think he saw something on Pinterest one day when I was scrolling through there looking for ideas and he did not forget that girl throwing glitter!

After getting a sense what colours were desired for the shoot, I hired Up Balloons to make a balloon arch for the session. Carolina did not disappoint! She made a gorgeous arch, delivered it right to the studio and helped set it up by adding twinkle lights. Once the family arrived they were also very happy with the beautiful balloon display!

This little birthday boy is such a character and it was a privilege photographing his cake smash! His parents chose the nautical backdrop which was great since no one had picked it since I got it last year and it is so nice.
