Winter is beautiful, and in Calgary we are stuck with it for 6-9 months of the year depending on where you live. No need to hide indoors, there are many benefits to outdoor photo shoots and several ways to enjoy them!

Cake smashes are quickly becoming my favourite photo sessions. One year old’s are at a great age where they can sit sturdily, stand and possibly walk a bit. They are also starting to become full of personality. That being said, you never know how they will react to a photo shoot.

I had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of 6 backdrops yesterday. Every day checking the app to see if the shipment was near and finally they arrived! Actually the wait was not that long I ordered them end of October but I was just so excited to put these to work. As I was looking at each one my little love was playing beside me. When he saw the camping backdrop he got so excited and told me he liked it. He was even happier when I told him this morning we could have some s’mores while pretending to camp. He said “that makes me happy mommy”. Oh my heart.

Most people don’t think of the great outdoors when they consider newborn photos, but it can be a beautiful option. Held in a Calgary park at sunset, these photos are different than the traditional wrapped and posed indoor photos.
